Happy Birthday, Captain van Donselaar : Holland america line blog.

Today is Captain van Donselaar’s birthday. The deck department got together to personally arrange his birthday cake themselves — that is make it and bake it! They traded in their nautical caps for chef hats and took over the pastry shop, putting their pastry skills to work. To celebrate Captain van Donselaar’s birthday and love of trains, they made this customized train cake fully equipped with chimney smoke, designer wheels and multicolored sprinkles of love. Bert’s Beauty Shots: Dolphins | Caribbean cruise.

We have been extremely lucky this week. Over the last seven days, we’ve literally seen hundreds of dolphins playing with the waves, welcoming us into Costa Rica and Mexico. This has the been the best cruise to take photos of those beautiful creatures. All you need is a camera with a fast shutter. I used 1/2000 second to ‘freeze’ the movement of the dolphins.

A Day at Ile des Pins - Holland america.

The Amsterdam has been in the South Pacific. Recently we visited Ile des Pins, Isle of Pines, a truly authentic South Pacific island. The weather was perfect, the sky a gorgeous blue, the beaches a soft white sand and the water many shades of blue. It was a fabulous day to kick back and chill out on a beach, go snorkeling or head out to Baie d’Oro for wading in crystal clear water. If you were hungry there were a number of beach grills where you get fish on a skewer for $4 and a beer for $10!
